FAQ's
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TATTOOING...
At Lone Wolf Tattoo, we aim to ensure you have the best tattoo experience. Here, we address some commonly asked questions in our Tattoo FAQ's.
Tattoos are by appointment only.
You must be 18 or over and be able to prove it.
Appointments can be made online or through social media.
We will require a non-refundable deposit by cash, card or online through our website.
We work from your ideas so the more images you can show us the better.
You can also bring in your own finished design which may need to be modified.
DOES IT HURT?
Pain threshold varies by person but typically yes, getting a tattoo does hurt! The pain is manageable but some areas are more sensitive than others.Your body's natural endorphins kick in after a few minutes and it tends to become more bearable. It's more irritating than agonizing, like a hot/cold buzzing feeling.
CAN I USE NUMBING CREAM?
Yes, but talk to us first. We don't particularly advise it as some numbing creams can affect how well the ink settles in your skin, it can cause reactions and it's just not always necessary.
CAN YOU OFFER COVER UPS?
Yes! However you will need to book a consultation, not all tattoos are ideal in design/size or colour to cover up. Find some images you like and we can look at their suitability or we can design something especially for you.
Points to consider:
The new design may have to be bigger than the original.
It might have to be tattooed in a darker ink to cover the original – if the tattoo is very dark, then only black ink will cover it.
Be aware that you may not have as much choice in designs as you would have if it were virgin skin – we will always endeavour to make it look like an original tattoo, rather than a cover up.
We can also re-work or revitalise old tattoos.
HOW MUCH WILL MY TATTOO COST?
This will depend on size, detail, work involved etc. Our minimum charge is £50 and then we work on an hourly rate after that. If you would like a quote please get in touch.
HOW DO I HEAL MY TATTOO?
Taking care of a fresh tattoo is as important as making sure your tattoo artist works cleanly. Proper aftercare is crucial for reducing your chances of a negative reaction such as infection and making your tattoo look as good as possible for as long as possible.
If you’re about to do a marathon or have a job where you need to go diving wait till after the marathon or till you have some time off from work before getting your work of art. You will want to keep your tattoo clean, free of heavy sweating, and moisturize it frequently with a good tattoo cream. Avoid exposing it to the sun, submerging it in water, and tight clothing that may stick to or rub the fresh tattoo.
You can check out our aftercare advice here although we will give you full details on how to take care of your tattoo before you leave.
DO YOU OFFER CONSULTATIONS?
Yes. Consultations are free and recommended.
You can book a consultation online or through a message for a set day and time for approximately 15 minutes in order to review your vision as well as its location, sizing and details. This can also be done via video call if you prefer or can't get to the studio. If your tattoo appointment isn’t already booked, your tattooist can book you in at the end of your consultation. Please note a deposit is required upon booking.
WHAT CAN I DO IN PREPARATION FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Please do not drink alcohol or use any type of blood thinning OTC medication (such as Ibuprofen and Aspirin) within 24 hours of your appointment.
Please refrain from sun exposure/tanning beds the 2 weeks prior to (as well as the 2 weeks after) your appointment. Get a good rest the night before, eat a full meal, and drink lots of water before coming in. CAN I SEE THE DESIGN BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

MY FRIEND SAID…
Although friends and family mean well, their advice when it comes to tattoos has the potential to be outdated or maybe even just based on something they’ve heard themselves. Please take your tattoo artist’s advice first and foremost because the things that we suggest are based on many years of working in the industry and seeing what works for a wide range of clients. We would hate to think that you put yourself or your tattoo at risk by accepting advice that hadn’t been tried and tested.
